Call and describe what happened
Describe what the water is doing right now: where it started, how far it has reached and whether it is still running, so the provider can plan.
Tempe Water Damage Pros connects callers with independent providers who take a property from water on the floor to a dry, documented building. Here is what happens at each stage and what you can do while you wait.
Describe what the water is doing right now: where it started, how far it has reached and whether it is still running, so the provider can plan.
Close the main shutoff if you can reach it safely, and keep out of rooms where water is near outlets, cords or the electrical panel.
Standing water comes out first. Then the provider takes moisture readings and marks what is wet; ask for the scope and price before any material is removed.
Equipment runs until the readings stop moving, not until a fixed number of days passes. Then ask the provider what needs to be put back.
Shut the water off at the main if you can reach it safely. In most Arizona homes the valve is on the supply line where it enters the front of the house, often beside a hose bib, or in the garage near the water softener loop; there is also a shutoff in the meter box near the street. If the water came from a drain or from outside, do not walk in it.
Keep out of any room where water is near outlets, cords, an air handler or the electrical panel. Photograph the rooms before you move anything, lift small items and electronics off the floor, and put foil or blocks under furniture legs so they do not stain the carpet. Do not use a household vacuum on water.
